Let me start off by giving a little introduction to our family business. Fifteen years ago, my father bought a small player that played cassette tapes. One side had music and vocals, the other had just music. You didn't hook the machine to the T.V. and have lyrics that lit up, you just sang along with the music. That was our families first introduction to karaoke. About 2 years later, we were introduced to karaoke with the lyrics on screen. My mother was so excited by it, my father took out a loan and bought one. At that point we met a man named Mike Shell, and started attending karaoke at a restaraunt/bar every Sunday. He introduced my mom and dad to a "professional system". We had about 50 c.d.'s and played around with it at home. There weren't any karaoke stores around, you had to look for c.d's that had songs you liked and order them out of book. After purchasing several Hundred dollars worth of disk, we started professionally doing karaoke at The Scoreboard Lounge. At that point the business took off. We stayed employed at the Scoreboard every Sunday and Thursday. Karaoke was doing very well at that time. At that point I was hired to work Friday's and Saturday's as well. We played karaoke on Sunday and Thursday and played D.J. music on Friday and Saturday's during the band breaks. We were employed with The Scoreboard for 8 years when it was sold and became Taylor's Tavern. We continued karaoke on Thursday and Sundays for about 2 years, when we quit due to poor management. During the same we were employed at Jeannie's in Fultondale. We had Karaoke there every Friday and Saturday night. We worked a short time at Earl's place in Tarrant up till the death of the owner.
Well times have changed, that's for sure. With the changes that have came in the past we have had Major upgrades to equipment, music, and with record and playback.
